Seamon Chan is Co founder and Managing Partner of Palm Drive Ventures. Seamon brings entrepreneurship and operational experience through involvement with startups in the mobile, gaming, advertising, and social networking spaces in US, China, and Europe. Previously, he was at Insight Venture Partners, a $8 billion venture capital and private equity firm with investments in Jingdong, Alibaba, and Twitter. Earlier in his career, he has worked at enterprises such as Hitachi Data Systems and Citigroup, as well as research labs such as Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab and Center for Integrated Systems. Seamon graduated from Stanford and is on the founding teams of Stanford Chinese Entrepreneurs Organization (Stanford CEO) and NYC Chinese Entrepreneurs Organization (NYCCEO), both organizations with thousands of members and alumni in US and China.

A Conversation with Wallace Cheng, Founder and Managing Director of ICTSD China

Wallace is founder and managing director of ICTSD China, the first and only independent trade policy think tank in China. He is one of the most influential policy advisers to Chinese central government and various international institutions on global trade and Chinese economy. ICTSD is dedicated to engaging the nation to play a constructive role in shaping the future of global economic governance for sustainable development. In 2007, he established “Bridges China Dialogue” in Geneva, a prominent annual event featuring high-level conversation between ministers, negotiators, CEOs and opinion leaders. Prior to that, Wallace served as a key economist in the Shanghai Municipal Government. Currently, he co-manages a new industrial policy group, The E15 Initiative, a joint project with the World Economic Forum. He is also a board member of the Foundation for Democracy and Sustainable Development in London, a member of IMD Evian Group Working Group on Trade (Lausanne), and Adjunct Professor at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE). Wallace co-edited two widely quoted books: From Rule Takers to Rule Makers and A Decade in the WTO, and is frequently interviewed by Chinese and international media including Xinhua, People’s Daily, Caixin, Reuters and Bloomberg. Wallace holds degrees from Fudan University and the University of Oxford.

A Discussion with James Xu, Senior Manager of International Government Affairs at Alibaba Group

Mr. Jing Xu is currently responsible for international government affairs in the Alibaba Group, specifically for the Group’s globalization strategy. Before joining Alibaba, he worked in Tesla China, responsible for government affairs in helping the company’s early development in China. From 2005 to 2014, he worked in the Chinese ministry AQSIQ, responsible for Non-Tariff Barriers (NTB) affairs of China under the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO). He also got involved in several Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations and implementation between China and its trading partners such as Singapore, Australia, Norway, Pakistan, the Gulf countries, amongst many others. With rich experience in NTB and policy-making, he was chosen to go to the European Commission as a government intern in 2009. He was the only Chevening Scholar in the ministry in 2011 and studied in the UK funded by the UK government. He holds a B.S. in chemistry from Peking University and a MPhil Degree in Technology Policy in University from Cambridge.
